Learning about Systems

Planning and thinking for our systems inquiry has started. We have some great ideas emerging.  The students have to show their understanding of how parts work together to make something work. Ideas so far include: computer systems, electrical systems, body systems, weather systems, mechanical systems, energy systems and solar systems. We're going to have some some great learning to share over the next four weeks.

The Wiz - Rotorua Boys High/Girls High Production

Yesterday the senior students had the opportunity to attend the School Production put on by the Rotorua Boys' and Girls'High School. They performed 'The Wiz',  a fantastic adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. Now we've seen the College's production, it's time to start thinking of our own school production in Term 3. What shall we do? Any ideas?

Thanks to Victoria Putt for the photos and for coming to help us along with Leanne Miers.

Systems Learning

This term our big idea for inquiry is Systems. We brainstormed all the different types of systems we could think of. One of those was Computer Systems. To help us understand the parts of computer systems we explored Makey Makey and Scratch. What a fun afternoon.

Gypsy Day

Last term, Tracey, our school librarian, read us a book called Gypsy Day. She set the class a challenge to research why Queens Birthday Weekend is such an important day for Rural school families.
Zoe interviewed her dad and made a movie all about it.
