Technology Challenge Week 4

The challenge this week focused on flight. Our learners had to design a paper plane that fitted each category:

  1. longest distance of flight
  2. tricky move
  3. smallest plane that flies at least 1 metre
We had such a good session researching, exploring designing and redesigning, making and trialling paper planes. There was a lot of deep thinking about wind resistance, streamlining and launching techniques. Learning is so much fun!

Cross Country

We were so lucky with the weather today. The rain stayed away and we got our cross country run in before lunch.
Thank you to all the students who used their virtues especially perseverance, courage and tolerance. I enjoyed watching you race and celebrating personal excellence with you. I know some of you don't particularly enjoy cross country but you demonstrated strength of character and you did it! There will be more photos on face book.

Learning about angles using CarBot

Our learners are busy discovering how mathematics and coding fit together . They had to think hard about how to measure 'the turn' to programme CarBot the turn the corner and to make shapes. They explored how to use our home made 'angle tool' and protectors to find and measure the angle. But first, they had to think hard about what angle they were actually measuring! Its not as easy as it sounds!
We have some fantastic mathematicians in Room 3. Ask your child all about their learning. Help them discover angles, ramps and slopes at home. Have a go at estimating and measuring them.

Anthony coded the CarBot to make a shape. Can you figure out the shape by reading the code?
Clever chappy using a 'Repeat' coding instruction. This shows that mathematicians like being efficient!

Assembly

Congratulation to Blake and Katie for running a very successful assembly. I admired the way you showed leadership Katie as you stepped in for Kyric at the last moment. What fantastic courage!
Congratulations to William, who has been recognised for displaying leadership in our Dynamo group and to Zoe and Greer who have been recognised for leadership in the library. What awesome Broadlands Learners and role models.

Thanks to Tracey who also won us these books for the library.
